What is Cannabidiolic acid (CBDa)?

CBDa is the acidic precursor of CBD. That means if you took some freshly harvested hemp plants, they would contain mostly CBDa and only a little CBD. It’s through the drying and heating process that CBDa turns into CBD (Cannabidiol).

What is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the cannabinoid found most in abundance in the cannabis plant. It has a psychoactive effect, hence plant varieties that have been bred for recreational use are particularly high in THC. That is not to say that THC doesn’t have any therapeutic use. It has been found to be effective for reducing nausea and vomiting experienced by patients during chemotherapy, can slow down the progression of glaucoma and help reduce nerve pain.

Is CBD (Cannabidiol) different from THC (tetrahydro-cannabidiol)?

Cannabinoids are a group of molecules that in general work in a similar way, interacting with the endocannabinoids system. There are some small structural differences, but they all bind to the same receptors in the human body. While there is no evidence as such, there is a lot of speculation in the scientific community that the small structural differences are responsible for the different side effects each individual cannabinoid has.

THC is the cannabinoid that gives its users the ‘high’, and it’s this cannabinoid that is targeted in drug tests. CBD is very similar in structure, however the side effect of CBD is the opposite of THC. Unlike THC, CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high. In fact, CBD has antipsychotic effects which means CBD works in the complete opposite way to THC.

Scientific studies suggest that CBD also acts to reduce the intoxicating effects of THC.

Is CBD oil/hemp oil legal?

CBD Oil/Hemp Oil and other hemp products are considered to be food-based. As such, there are no restrictions on the production, sale and consumption of hemp oil in the United States. CBD Oil/Hemp Oil is legal in most countries in the world as long is it contains low or in some countries untraceable concentrations of the molecule THC.
